The clean colors that make up each piece of the body are really good.

I also really love how smooth the shapes look even though they have a rougher edge.

And the little amounts of line to help define some edges work very well.

I would love to see more drawings of the Mystery Gang!

InsaneDingoArt responds:

Thanks so much for the compliments! <3 :) I'm glad you took notice of the soft edges i went with. ^_^

This really is a great vector-based work.

You did a great job of making the character defined while also simplifying the form and removing the face.

I think it needs some kind of color background, maybe even just a simple vector sky with some wispy clouds.

Also, I think the right hand (on the left) should be the same color as the body blue. The subtle change of blue on the hands is too close which is bothering my eyes.

Overall, I think that this series is a really good idea and I hope you enjoyed making this!

Thank you so much!

Your compliments and pointers are super helpful, I'm always looking to improve my work and hearing a detailed second opinion lets me know exactly what areas I need to work on!

I like the perspective of the piece, coming from the bottom to lead to the open sky and moon.

I do wish that the lighting was maybe more apparent on the dog character and that the sky wasn't just black.

I think the gradients of light coming from the sea give more to the piece than the sky, so adding to the sky would even out the piece and draw the eye all over.

LesliePeslie responds:

Thank you for the criticism!!! I really appreciate it!!!

I like the very clean lines throughout the entire illustration.

The emotion from the character is also fairly clear to the viewer.

I do think maybe the floor should be defined as the character is on this weird blur, almost like a cloud.

Other than that, I think it works well.

INKtiger responds:

thank you, and totally valid observation on the floor. It's difficult to find a way to keep commission prices affordable and doing so I have options that don't include a background. This was one of those and it makes it harder to make a character seem grounded

I love the clean lines and very straight limbs.

The edges really play into the look of the character.

My only critique might be that his clothes are a little too dark, so you can lose his limbs a bit.

Maybe some kind of gradient that lightens it up a just a tiny bit?

ryouichiii responds:

Thank you!! I didn't notice how dark the clothing was because of my monitor, so thank you for telling me!

Oh I remember seeing this on Twitter a little bit ago!

I really do like the style you have with your art.

It feels like classic Disney animation in a way, where characters are more stylized than realistic.

powerJAM responds:

Thank you so much^^ Style beats realism every time ;>

I love Danny's smile.

Makes me think of the Tangled scene with the Smolder.

PricklyDapper responds:

Thank you so much!

I love the clouds and the posing a lot.

Were you trying to go for a renaissance look with the illustration?

I'm wondering because it has those kinds of looks that paintings from the renaissance do.

PkBlitz responds:

Thank you! I was 100% going for the renaissance feel with this, it was like my main priority (guess what: my second priority was the poses). Thank you so much for noticing! lol
